Originally known as Mambassa Collective, the project was born in 2018, bringing together nine musicians from all language regions of Switzerland. Their compositions are influenced by Nigerian afrobeat and European disco, emerged from collective jam sessions and are built around repetitive loops, sung parts, incisive wind themes and long stretches of improvisation.

Following their summer tour in 2023 across Switzerland and Italy, the band underwent a transformation, rebranding themselves as LAYENA to embrace the project's evolving identity. In December of that year, they entered the studio to record their debut album. Get ready to groove to many of the new songs from their upcoming album as they set the dance floor on fire!
